Commercial Insurance Claims Assistance

You need help with your Insurance claim

Insurance companies employ loss adjusters who work for them to minimise the amount they pay out. The loss adjusters aren't working for you. If you have suffered a loss for whatever reason, eg Fire, Flood, Theft or Negligence, without our help you may have difficulty in obtaining the Insurance settlement you deserve.

We're on your side - contact us now

Henry Dony Associates are Loss Assessors working for you to ensure you get everything you are entitled to. Whatever the type of claim, contact us immediately, because the way an Insurance claim is presented is just as important as the way it is negotiated and settled. The earlier you contact us the better. Contact us now for a free consultation.

Claim for Business Interruption

Often, following an insured event a business will experience a reduction in turnover. This would be the subject of another claim under the “Business Interruption” section of the policy. This is sometimes referred to as “loss of profits” or “consequential loss.” It is this aspect that often creates the greatest challenge for the Insurance Loss Assessor. With our accountancy expertise, we are able to prepare the figures in a way that we know is acceptable to the loss adjuster and then negotiate the best possible settlement.

We can help you get what you are entitled to

Business Interruption is an inexact science and bearing in mind that the loss adjuster wants to minimise the claim, he will often look at the figures that we have prepared, but in a very different way. He will choose to extrapolate sales differently, and perhaps lay more or less emphasis on sales trends than we would – all in an attempt to pay out as little as possible. For our part, as with all aspects of every claim, we seek only to ensure that the claimants are treated fairly and receive everything they are entitled to.

Top priority - to get the business up and running again

With a commercial claim, usually the top priority is to get the business up and running again as quickly as possible. If, as a result of say fire or water damage the computer system is disabled; or through theft, simply not there, we must try and replace the hardware as soon as possible - and reinstate the records immediately. Unfortunately this situation often throws up how little emphasis is placed by the vast majority of businesses, particularly small ones, on a disciplined means of regular backup. Our advisory service can offer advice on minimising your risk.

Are you adequately insured?

Inadequate Insurance cover is often a feature of businesses. Whether it is in respect of property or stock or plant & machinery, it is vital that the sums insured should always represent the amount at risk. Where there is underinsurance, Insurance Companies, or their appointed loss adjusters will be quick to point this out and will translate that into paying less than the agreed value of the claim. They do this by invoking the “average” clause. This can often mean that although Insurers have agreed that the claim is valid and substantial, the policyholder will get very much less than the agreed amount of the claim because of underinsurance.

Advice on level of Insurance required

We are quite happy to be consulted as to the adequacy of sums insured. Businesses should have an independent valuation carried out periodically as part of a good housekeeping programme and preventive action strategy.
